The Bible
What the Bible says about itself
Psalm 119:151
You are near, O Lord, And all Your commandments
are truth.
NKJV
If you haven't
come to this conclusion before arriving at this page --
I believe the Bible is the WORD OF GOD!
The Old Testament declares
3,808 times that it conveys the express Words of God. Many times, Jesus
says, "but I say unto you" (for example, Matt
5:17-18). But,
What does the Bible say about itself ?
Consider the following verses from Psalm 119 (KJV)
89 LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.
92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.
93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.
94 I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts.
95 The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies.
96 I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
We have already seen other verses which support the proposition that God directed men to write down the words God spoke. These manuscripts in their original form are the Word of God and are designed never to fade away.
In revelation we have the vertical reception of God's truth while in inspiration we have the horizontal communication of that revelation accurately to others. This is the premise behind the study of the Bible. Scholars use several terms to describe the preparation of the original manuscripts, their truth, and the method by which the Holy Spirit uses these truths. But, all such descriptions are based upon the fact that a personal heavenly God will reveal Himself in unchanging fashion to mankind.
Psalm 119:89
For
ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. (KJV)
And, God is serious about preserving His Word. Consider
Revelation 22:18-19 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (KJV)
Deuteronomy 12:32 32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. (KJV)
Deuteronomy 4:2 2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. (KJV)
