God's Existence
What the Bible Says About God
Job 34:12
Surely God will never do wickedly, Nor will the
Almighty pervert justice.
NKJV
A supernatural God must posses the attributes listed on the prior page. Possession of these attributes means that God clearly has the ability convey information and knowledge to men. This conveyance of information is revelation. That revelation is recorded in the Bible.
For example, God has described Himself in Exodus 34:6-7
6 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,7 "keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation." NKJV
Another version of the attributes list is found in Revelation 5:12 and 7:12
5:12
saying with a loud voice:
"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!"
NKJV
7:12
saying:
"Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
Amen." NKJV
These obviously do not constitute a complete list of all the attributes of God. But, they go a long way toward demonstrating that the God of the Bible is God.
What is particularly interesting about the descriptions of God is that the Bible supports all of the arguments given earlier for the existence of God. Consider, for example,
Support for the teleological argument:
Isaiah
45:18
18 For thus says the Lord,
Who
created the heavens,
Who is God,
Who formed the earth and made it,
Who has established it,
Who did not create it in vain,
Who formed it to be inhabited:
"I am the Lord, and there is no other.
NKJV
Psalm
19:1-4
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And
the firmament shows His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun NKJV
And, for the natural revelation of the esthetic, cosmologica, and moral arguments:
Romans
1:19-20
19 because what may be known of God is manifest
in them, for God has shown it to them. 20
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes
are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even
His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse
NKJV
Romans
2:14-15
14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by
nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are
a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their
hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves
their thoughts accusing or else excusing them(
NKJV)
Acts
17:28-29
28 "for in Him we live and move and have our being,
as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'
29 "Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think
that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped
by art and man's devising. NKJV
