Abiding Fruit

Much Fruit

Romans 1:5
through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name’s sake
NASB

A good tree naturally produces good fruit. A Christian will naturally produce good works - as long as the Christian remains attached to the vine of Christ. We may all receive the fruit of the Spirit at salvation, but only as long as the "sap" of the vine flows to us and through us can we produce good fruit. This requires that we work at remaining attached to the vine, that we struggle and strive to abide in Christ. We must learn to yield to the Holy Spirit so we may remain in Christ. One must be active toward this abiding. We must practice our Christianity.

1 Corinthians 9:25-27
25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

This struggle comes by remaining in God's Word and learning His doctrines.

Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Colossians 3:10-15
10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

What does it mean to abide in Christ?

We must be a Christian.

We must rely solely upon god.

We must study to understand God's Word so we may apply it in our lives.

We must always remember and believe that God is always faithful.

We must continually pray.

We must continually mediate on His Word.

We must do our daily devotions.

We must want to look to Christ for everything we do, want, and need.

We must want to abide in Christ.
