The Trinity
God
Isaiah 45:5-6
5 I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is
no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me,6 That
they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting That there is
none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other
NKJV
In another context we have discovered the existence of God.
And we investigated the claims that Jesus is God.
In this last mentioned study, we found the existence of God to be a proven fact, one necessary to each person on earth. And, we discovered that Jesus is very much God. But, this commences to raise a quandary in our minds -- for this appears to provide us with two Gods. Is this the case? Is it possible to have two Gods?
The answer to these questions is a resounding NO! If there were two separate Gods, we would have multiple "supreme authorities." This is obviously not possible, for if god #1 had an equal, he would not be god! He would not be supreme for there would be more than one "supreme being." This is a contradiction in terms. Yet, we find Christianity claims that Jesus is God. How is this possible?
The issue is actually more complicated, for the Bible teaches the Holy Spirit is also equally God. Do we now have three "supreme beings?" Are there three masters of the universe? If so, how are decisions made? Do they periodically meet and vote, as in one of our committee meetings?
Let us precede to investigate the Christian doctrine about God&s Threeness. This doctrine is called the Trinity. Simply stated the doctrine of the Trinity is:
- God exists as three distinct Persons without separation of existence so completely united as to be One. These three Persons are called the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Is your God smarter than you are? For Christianity, the doctrine of the Trinity is the test for one&s answer to this question.
Read on and let God work on your soul, heart, and spirit as you consider the true answer to the doctrine of the Trinity.
