What is Man?
Is man's psychological constitution one part or two?
Man has both a material nature and an immaterial nature. There is no dispute on this point. The material nature is man's physical body. The dispute, if there is one, is over the composition of man's immaterial nature.
Are the soul and spirit the same thing, or is there a distinction? The dispute has been with the church, at least, since the mid-second century.
Are these questions of any importance?
I submit that a proper understanding of man's nature helps to understand the teachings of sanctification, the process of growing in Christ. We may understand the difficult passages of Paul if we understand that man is in conflict with himself and God, even after being saved.
