Is Man 2 Parts or 3?

A Response

Man was created in the image of God (Gen 1:27; 2:7). It is significant to note that nowhere does the Bible record that anyone who dies a sinner facing eternal separation from God ceases to be a person with the attributes of the image (cf. 1 Cor 11:7). They just die unholy! (But, is this the same thing as the image?) The quest of God's seeking man is to restore the image in man (Eph 4:24; Col 3:10).

Ephesians 4:24
And put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

As we have seen, Romans 5:12-21 demands an understanding that physical death entered the world because of Adam's sin, not just spiritual death. This eats away at a major portion of Godbey's argument.

Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—

Ultimately, the question is whether or not the soul and spirit, as used in Scripture, are different both as to function and as to substance.

Psalm 84:2
2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
