Prophecy
The Fury Is Coming
Ezekiel 8:17
17 “Have you seen this, son of man?”
he asked. “Is it nothing to the people of Judah that they commit
these terrible sins, leading the whole nation into violence, thumbing
their noses at me, and rousing my fury against them?
NLT
Ezekiel 8:17
And He said to me, "Have you seen this, O
son of man? Is it a trivial thing to the house of Judah to commit the
abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with
violence; then they have returned to provoke Me to anger. Indeed they
put the branch to their nose.
Have you seen this, O son of man?
That's a small "s," meaning Ezekiel not Jesus. It could mean you and me. We are all “sons” of man, be we male or female. Is it a trivial thing to commit an abomination to God?
The answer, of course, is the same today as it was in Ezekiel's day. It is not small thing to step on God's toes. It is no small thing to turn one's back on God. This is an eternal choice. We, the church, must forcefully contend for the faith. We must warn the unbelieving world of things to come. The future is set in the concrete of God's Word. The Israelites provoked God to anger. The modern world must be provoking God to anger as well, for we commit the same abominations Ezekiel sees in this chapter.
God's response to Ezekiel is found in the last verse of this chapter, 8:18:
Therefore I also will act in fury. My eye will not spare nor will I have pity; and though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.
Revelation sets forth the final fury of God. That day is coming. It may come tomorrow. It may come in my lifetime. It may arrive in my daughter&s lifetime. It may take hundreds of more years. But, the prophecies of old teach us that God's Word always comes true. The final judgment of Revelation is just around God's corner. We must be ready and must be ”out front” with our faith.
