God's Attributes
Eternal
Psalm 102:26-27
26 They will perish, but You will endure; Yes,
they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change
them, And they will be changed. 27 But You are the same, And Your years
will have no end.
NKJV
God being eternal includes three ideas:
It means that the nature of God is without beginning or end
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. NKJV
Genesis 21:33
Then Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there called on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God. NKJV
1 Timothy 1:17
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. NKJV
that God is free from all succession of time
Psalm 90:1-2 1
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. NKJV
that God contains within Himself the cause of time
Isaiah 40:28
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. NKJV
Revelation 1:8
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” NKJV
Eternity might be viewed as the measure of the state of immutability. Immutability is the underlying attribute. Immutability is the essence or the attribute. If God is not eternal, than He is not immutable and therefore is not God.
Because God is eternal and immutable, the covenants He makes with man stand on an unbreakable foundation.
Psalm 33:11
The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. NKJV
