God's Attributes

Omniscience

Psalm 139:1-4
1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
NIV

The word "omniscience" comes to us via Latin and means "all-knowing." Omniscience is knowing the past, the present, the future, and the possible. God knows these things equally well and perfectly. Wisdom is rooted in knowledge.

God has perfect knowledge

Psalm 147:5
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.
NIV
1 John 3:20
whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
NIV
Daniel 2:22
He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.
NIV

God sees and hears everything

2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.
NIV
Proverbs 5:21
For a man’s ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths.
NIV
Psalm 34:15
The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry;
NIV

This perfect knowledge includes perfect knowledge of each individual person and of all human experiences

Psalm 33:13-15
13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth— 15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. NIV
Matthew 12:35-37
35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
NIV
Romans 8:28-30
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
NIV

God knows from all eternity what shall be in all eternity, the entire plan of the ages and the part of every man in that plan.

Ephesians 1:3-12
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. 11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.
NIV
Isaiah 48:3-7
3 I foretold the former things long ago, my mouth announced them and I made them known; then suddenly I acted, and they came to pass. 4 For I knew how stubborn you were; the sinews of your neck were iron, your forehead was bronze. 5 Therefore I told you these things long ago; before they happened I announced them to you so that you could not say, ‘My idols did them; my wooden image and metal god ordained them.’ 6 You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not admit them? “From now on I will tell you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you. 7 They are created now, and not long ago; you have not heard of them before today. So you cannot say, ‘Yes, I knew of them.’
NIV
