God's Attributes
Wrath
Revelation 6:16
and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us
and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath
of the Lamb!
NKJV
The wrath of God is the manifestation of His holy, moral character against all unrighteousness (sin). It is God's displeasure, holy indignation, and permanent attitude against sin and evil.
Sin, in its clearest form, is nothing more or less than rebellion against God. Sin is a wrong against His sovereignty. God's expression of wrath is not angry judgment, but rather is an expression of His holy love. Without wrath God's love would be worthless and the concept of mercy and grace would be meaningless.
Men are without excuse in knowing God.
Romans 1:18-20
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. NKJV
God in His mercy has postponed the true outpouring of His wrath. This is a display of His great love for His creation. The day will come when God's wrath is delivered against those the Bible calls "children of wrath."
Ephesians 2:3
among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. NKJV
The Christian may take great hope in the knowledge that He has been sheltered from God's wrath by the blood of Jesus.
Romans 5:9
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. NKJV
1 Thessalonians 1:10
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. NKJV
The wrath of God is always in accordance with the standards set down in Scripture for mans conduct and the warnings God has given for disobedience.
Deuteronomy 29:26-28
26 for they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that He had not given to them. 27 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against this land, to bring on it every curse that is written in this book. 28 And the Lord uprooted them from their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.’ NKJV
Jeremiah 22:11-12
11 For thus says the Lord concerning Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, who went from this place: “He shall not return here anymore, 12 but he shall die in the place where they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more. NKJV
The wrath of God is in accordance with the deeds of men. Gods wrath is always in direct proportion to mans sin
Psalm 28:4
Give them according to their deeds, And according to the wickedness of their endeavors; Give them according to the work of their hands; Render to them what they deserve. NKJV
Ezekiel 20:44
Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have dealt with you for My name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways nor according to your corrupt doings, O house of Israel,” says the Lord God.’ ” NKJV
