About Doctrines
Death
Death had entered the world via the sin of Adam. This death involved:
- Physical death of the body. Both actual death and a deteriorating life span demonstrate this. (Gen 5)
- Spiritual death in the broken relationship with God. No longer could man walk side-by-side with God.
- Further, this spiritual death involves the future eternal separation from God. (Eph 4:18-22)
- Eternal Death, eternal separation from God. (Rev 20:14)
- Moral death, as man's nature became sinful and depraved. (Rom 1:18-32)
It is clear from a reading of Genesis that Paul's comments in Rom 5:12 are accurate. Sin entered into the world by the one man, Adam. The penalty for this sin was in accordance with God's command (Gen 2:16-17). This penalty was death. So, via Adam came sin and death. This death spread to all of mankind. Because, says Paul, all sinned.
Romans 5:12 (NLT)
When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
