Doctrinal Basics

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

We might take note that it is possible to consider Christianity as requiring belief in even more of the doctrines. Paul, for example, frequently includes a “mini-Gospel” in his letters. As examples consider:

Romans 1:3-4 (NIV)
3 regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)
16 Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

Both of these passages address the Incarnation, God taking on human form, the fact that the prophecy of the Messiah/King would come from the lineage of David, that His power comes from the Holy Spirit, that the Resurrection is God’s proof to all, including the angels, that the Gospel is to be preached unto all nations, that Jesus ascended into Heaven in glory, and that He must be believed on in the world. This might just be viewed as an expansion of our previous three doctrinal requirements, but maybe it really requires more.

In particular, doesn’t it require complete belief in the Words of Scripture?

Consider one of the statements Jesus Himself made and the response to His proclamation.
